Why “best locksmith” is just a slogan

Anyone can type a superlative into an ad. Nobody checks it. Search results are crowded with superlatives, and none of them tells you what will happen when someone arrives at your door.

Five things that actually matter

  1. Clear pricing. A published service call fee and starting prices, so you can compare before you call.
  2. A quote before work starts. On the phone as an estimate, then confirmed on site.
  3. A written invoice. It should show the work done, parts, total and any warranty.
  4. Identification. The locksmith should ask for yours, and be willing to show theirs.
  5. Straight answers. Who does the work? Who do you pay? A reputable service will tell you plainly.

California licenses locksmith companies and their employees through the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services. It is reasonable to ask for a license number and look it up.

Red flags

  • A price on the phone that jumps once the work has started
  • Drilling a standard lock before trying anything else
  • No business name on the invoice, or no invoice at all
  • Pressure to decide on the spot

How this service works

Altadena Locksmith Store is a dispatch line. The Terms say so directly: jobs are referred to independent locksmith contractors, who invoice you and provide any warranty. The price list is published. You get an estimate on the phone and the contractor confirms the price before any work.

Final thoughts

Judge a locksmith on what you can check. Pricing, paperwork and honest answers will tell you far more than any slogan.
